Ben & Jerry's Project

I designed a brand focused on elevated fruit-flavored sorbets, since I felt this is an open niche in the market. The brand that I created is Cariño, a sorbet brand focused on smooth, fruity flavors. In Spanish, "cariño" means loved one, and it has a very smooth pronunciation. The flavor ideas are inspired by fruit combinations, with a focus on being airy and smooth - the perfect light dessert. My main audiences are millennials and Gen X.
The design elements I wanted to emphasize were curvy lines and fruit imagery, meant to encapsulate the two main elements of my product. I utilized the same curved line pattern in all of my five designs, making it a staple of the brand. I also wanted to add in some playfulness, using the texture of paper and various optical illusions. The paper was a simple but powerful design element, adding in texture to my designs.
For my color palette, I again wanted to focus on the fruit. I used colors inspired by the fruit flavors, utilizing a gradient from softer pastels to brighter colors. I wanted the fun colors to again invoke a sense of playfulness in the customer.

For my three elements, I decided to design sorbet packaging, a poster, and a postcard. With the packaging, I chose the flavor cherry limeade so I could show off a combination of fruits and colors. However, for the poster and postcard, I focused on a lemon because lemons and lemonade flavors are such a staple to my brand. It was simple imagery that would be instantly recognizable.
With my typology, I decided to use individual segments in different colors from my line pattern to indicate the various flavors. Since the sorbets are all identical texturally, with no add-ins, having the distinguishing factors be the lines and colors made more sense. The pattern is taking the line pattern and repeating it, creating a colorful and visually interesting piece.
